Frumpy and pregnant? Not with these fashion tips
Long gone are the days when pregnancy meant looking for your dad's old pair of dungarees, or thinking your colleagues are oblivious to you wearing your other half's biggest white shirt...thank goodness. Today, maternity fashion is bang on trend, and having a big bump is no excuse to look frumpy for three quarters of the year. Here are some top tips to make sure you stay looking your best during your pregnancy. Classic elegance Invest in a classic pair of trousers to be the base of your working wardrobe. Take time to try on different styles and find which suits you the best. A classic pair of tailored black or grey trousers can be so versatile and updated with different tops, shoes and accessories. Fit is key Carefully choose maternity clothes for a body flattering fit and avoid too big or too small. Celebrate your new shape with wrap and ruche styles that follow your form and give you a beautiful silhouette. Don’t hide If you're tempted to buy bigger, please reconsider. The extra fabric in non-maternity wear may cover your bump, but it will swamp all your body's stunning new curves. Work it: show off your best bits during pregnancyPick items that enhance your elegant neck, delicate shoulders and pregnancy cleavage, such as low v-necks and halter shapes. Get the look A pregnancy wardrobe can still be on trend. Take inspiration from the season catwalks and introduce signature pieces into your look. This season is all about florals, so don’t be afraid to invest in a few tops and skirts. If the full look is not for you, then accessorise with pretty scarves or jewellery. Colour me beautiful Don’t be afraid to add splashes of colour into your working wardrobe. Brighten up a classic pair of trousers or skirt with a bold blouse or wrap top – opt for choclate brown, deep blue or purple instead of black. Statement prints look striking on a pregnant figure and are perfect teamed with smart jeans, skirts and a classic suit. If you’re a little shy when it comes to full on colour, accessorise with bold bangles, print scarves and statement bags. By Fiona Lappin of Creation Maternity – www.creationmaternity.com
